Volleyball roundup: DHS, SHS falter in three

Anna Jones had five kills and 11 digs while Ashli Wieck handed out 16 assists in Sherman's 25-9, 25-12, 25-18 loss to Frisco Wakeland in District 9-4A action at Sherman on Friday night.

Jessica Wash and Shaquoia Mask each put down six kills and Carin Hepner collected nine digs for Sherman (11-22, 1-10), which plays at Frisco on Tuesday.

Frisco def. Denison 3-0

FRISCO -- Brooke Furst had eight kills and Ashlyn Conrad collected 21 digs in a losing effort as Frisco defeated Denison, 25-16, 25-18, 28-26.

Ashton Walters and Imani Finley each put down five kills, Rachel Oakley handed out 11 assists and Danna Neasbitt finished with 11 assists and 11 digs for Denison (16-18, 3-8), which hosts Frisco Liberty on Tuesday.

District 9-3A
Argyle def. Whitesboro 3-2

WHITESBORO -- Kortney Beebe had 13 kills and four blocks while Courtney Davis added 12 kills and four blocks in a losing effort as Argyle defeated Whitesboro, 19-25, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, 15-12.

Becca Winter finished with 12 kills and 17 digs, Jill Schuessler added eight kills and 16 digs and Krista Hitt collected 16 digs for Whitesboro (22-11, 2-5), which hosts Celina on Tuesday night.

District 11-2A
No. 6 Gunter def. Leonard 3-0

LEONARD -- Joey Bailey had 12 kills and 12 digs while Morgan Watson added 27 assists, seven kills and seven digs as Gunter defeated Leonard, 25-17, 25-14, 25-8.

Kristi Cross had five kills and five aces, Lindsey Bowen chipped in five digs, six kills and aces and Meghen Mazerolle added three digs and four kills for Gunter (28-9, 8-0), which plays at Bells on Tuesday night.

Melissa def. Tom Bean 3-0

MELISSA -- Miranda Bates had seven kills and four assists and Bekah Newberry had five kills and four blocks as Melissa defeated Tom Bean, 25-12, 25-6, 25-14.

Shelby Hill handed out 10 assists and Taylor Murphy put down four kills for Melissa (16-19, 7-2), which has the bye Tuesday before playing at Gunter at 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon.

Howe def. Whitewright 3-0

HOWE -- Ashton James had 10 kills while Stephanie Creekmore added nine kills as Howe defeated Tom Whitewright, 25-14, 25-11, 25-15.

Paige Potter put down seven kills, Briana Slawson chipped in eight aces and 14 digs and Jessica Luangaphay collected 12 digs for Howe (15-24, 3-6), which hosts Tom Bean on Tuesday night.

District 11-A
No. 23 Savoy def. Trenton 3-1

TRENTON -- Bailey McGehee had 17 kills and Natalie Brasher put down eight kills as Savoy defeated Trenton, 25-14, 23-25, 25-13, 25-23.

Whitney Cooke handed out 29 assists, Katherine Merritt collected six digs and Lauren Camp added three kills and four digs for Savoy (20-10, 9-2).

TAPPS 4-2A play-in
McKinney Christian def. TCS 3-1

VAN ALSTYNE -- Lauren Kirby had 22 kills, eight digs and six blocks while Delaney Ortega added 13 kills and 10 digs in a losing effort as McKinney Christian defeated Texoma Christian, 12-25, 25-19, 27-25, 25-14, in a match to determine the top two seeds for the playoffs.

MacKenzie Kolb handed out 25 assists, Kharissa Rallis added 22 assists and seven digs and Rylie McConnell collected eight digs for Texoma Christian (18-20, 7-2), which will open the playoffs in the bi-district round against Dallas Cambridge at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at a site to be determined.
