COLLEGE STATION — Celina went undefeated in pool play and moved into the championship bracket of the small school division 7-on-7 state tournament on Thursday.
Pilot Point finished second in its pool with a 2-1 record and advanced to the championship bracket while Melissa was knocked to the consolation bracket after losing out on a three-way tie-breaker.
Celina, which is trying to win its third 7-on-7 title, will face Abilene Wylie today while Pilot Point takes on Graham in the 16-team championship bracket. Melissa battles Marion in the consolation bracket.
Celina came away with a 55-27 victory over Bandera, a 46-19 victory over West and a 36-27 victory over Hitchcock. Pilot Point defeated Marion, 27-25, and Goldthwaite, 28-19, but lost to Gatesville, 38-18.
Melissa began the day with a 26-20 victory over Graham and a 31-13 victory over Edna but the Cardinals lost to Cameron Yoe, 21-18. Graham, Cameron Yoe and Melissa were all 2-1 but the Cardinals scored the fewest number of points — four behind Cameron Yoe — and were sent to the consolation bracket.
