Celina catcher Charley Waldrep and Pottsboro outfielder Larry Ellis have been selected to play in the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association’s Class 1A-3A All-Star Game on Saturday at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.
Waldrep batted .456 on the year with three homers, 26 runs batted in and 13 stolen bases as the Bobcats reached the Class 3A Region II semifinals. Waldrep was named the offensive Most Valuable Player in District 9-3A.
Waldrep, who will attend the University of Alabama on an academic scholarship but plans to walk on in baseball, will also participate in the Texas High School Coaches Association’s All-Star Football Game on July 21 in Austin.
Ellis, meanwhile, batted .551 with six doubles, three triples, 23 RBIs and 11 steals, helping lead the Cardinals to the playoffs in District 10-2A.
Also selected for the North team was Prosper’s Clayton Woodruff.
Coaches for the North All-Stars will be Mike Leach of Burkburnett, Lynn Turner of Anson and David Turner of New Deal.
