When Dave Campbell’s Texas Football Magazine officially hits stores on Monday, Denison fans will find their team slated fourth in the Class 4A preseason rankings and predicted to win the Division II state title.
Running back D.J. Jones and defensive lineman Jaqwaylin Arps were also selected as preseason 4A all-state choices.
Longview was picked No. 1 in the poll, followed by Denton Guyer, Cibolo Steele and then the Jackets. Based on Dave Campbell’s projections, those three schools will go to the big school bracket. Denison is their favorite to win Region II in Division II and then go on to win state over Angleton.
Other area teams were picked in the top 25 of their classifications. Celina, fresh off a state runner-up finish, starts at fourth in 3A. Pilot Point sits at 13 and Melissa is at 24 in the 2A poll while Collinsville begins at 22nd in the 1A poll.
