BONHAM — Bonham won’t be in the market for new diamond coaches this off-season after all.
Head baseball coach Brad Hill has decided to stay at Bonham after being approved last Thursday by the board of trustees at Class 6A Muskogee, Okla.
“My heart is in Bonham, even with all of the (facilities) they have in Muskogee,” Hill said Wednesday evening. “I couldn’t walk away from the Bonham kids. You develop relationships over two years. I have most of these kids in other sports.
“I’m fortunate that (Bonham) hadn’t replaced Chris or me yet,” Hill said. “I’m in a better situation here and the Muskogee athletic director was understanding when I told him.”
Since neither Hill nor his wife, Chris, who coaches Bonham’s softball team — had submitted his or her resignation, both are being allowed to resume their jobs sans re-approval.
“(Muskogee) is a big-time job and could have led to other things, but he is happy here,” Bonham athletic director Ronnie Hill said.
Last month, Brad Hill coached Bonham to a third-place tie with Van Alstyne in District 10-3A baseball. Bonham lost, 4-0, to finish the year at 14-10 overall and 5-6 in league play.
Meanwhile, Chris Hill led Bonham (28-8) this spring to its second regional quarterfinal appearance in the 15-year history of the softball program.
The change of heart saves Ronnie Hill from having to conduct yet another search this off-season to fill a head coaching vacancy. He was already looking for a new head volleyball coach after his wife, Robyn, was hired in April for the same position at Class 4A Royse City. He hopes to take a candidate for this job to the board this month.
Ronnie Hill also began a search for a new head football coach on Tuesday after John Hall was hired on Monday as Orange Grove’s athletic director and head football coach. Hill said he received 20 applications for the job on Wednesday.
