CELINA — Paris High scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back on its way to a 10-1 win against Van Alstyne on Saturday to finish undefeated in district play for the 10-3A title in a game where the teams had to search for a dry field to play.
Lance Fields and Chase Harvey had doubles for the Wildcats (21-4, 10-0). Fields also pitched the first three innings, with Dillon McEwin picking up the win with three innings of relief.
The loss sends Van Alstyne into a 7:30 p.m. play-in game Tuesday against Bonham, where the winner picks up the district’s third seed, while the losing team goes home. North Lamar is the 10-3A’s No. 2 team.
District 17-A
Wolfe City 1, North Hopkins 0
BIRTHRIGHT — Kevin Eldridge, Zeke Richardson, Josh Valacich and Colt Herron each had hits, as Wolfe City scored once in the first inning and held on to clinch a district championship.
Herron also picked up the complete-game shutout, allowing only four hits while striking out 13. The Wolves play a warm-up game at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Blue Ridge and play the winner between LaPoyner and Overton at a time to be determined on May 19 at Gilmer.
On Friday night, Wolfe City scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth for a 5-4 victory against Cumby at home in district play.
Kory Wilkinson struck out 12 and had three hits, while Herron won the game with an inning of scoreless relief, and Ryan Smith drove in two runs.
Cumby had scored three runs in the seventh to force extra innings and added another run in the eighth before Wolfe City’s rally.

Bland 2, Trenton 1
MERIT — Dylan Groves and Michael Day drove in runs as Bland defeated Trenton in a warm-up game on Friday afternoon.
Cody Welch had an RBI single in the seventh inning for Trenton and Randy Tripp was 3-for-3 for the Tigers.
Trenton (16-8) will play the winner of Monday’s District 9-A play-in game between Archer City and Petrolia in the bi-district round later this week while Bland (12-4) will play the loser of that game to open the post-season.

LEONARD — Kaci Bush had five hits and four RBI as S&S run-ruled Sam Rayburn in a warm-up game at Leonard on Friday night.
Angela White and Megan Matlock combined to strike out 11 in a perfect-game effort and While had four hits and drove in two runs.
Haley Colwell also went 4-for-4 while Nikki Jones added three hits and scored four times for S&S (29-0).
