Tyler Liss struck out 13 Frisco batters and Garrett Powell went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI as No. 7 Sherman won its fourth straight district game after defeating the Raccoons, 6-1, in District 9-4A action on Tuesday at Veterans Field.
Madison Carter doubled, tripled and drove in a run while J.J. Floyd had three RBI.
Liss faced 25 batters, allowing only three hits with one walk and one hit batter. He didn’t allow a run until Drew Dyer’s solo home run with two outs in the seventh inning.
The Bearcats (19-3-1, 6-2), in a three-way tie for first, travel to McKinney North (11-5, 5-3) on Friday.
Frisco Liberty 11, Denison 7
FRISCO — The host Redhawks had just six hits, taking advantage of seven walks, four errors and two hit batsmen to defeat Denison.
Caleb McKearan had a solo home run and doubled for Denison (5-10, 0-8) while Hayden Chapman and Jordan Taylor also doubled.
Justin Maresh was 2-for-2 with two sacrifice bunts and two RBI while Evan Ramsey had two hits for the Yellow Jackets, who host McKinney at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
District 10-3A
Paris 10, Van Alstyne 0 (5)
PARIS — John Mark Abbey no-hit Van Alstyne as Paris run-ruled the Panthers (10-8, 2-3).
Paris (19-4, 5-0) scored eight runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open.
District 10-2A
Pilot Point 8, S&S 7
PILOT POINT — The host Bearcats scored twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to pull out a victory over S&S.
S&S (6-9, 3-5) had taken a one-run lead in the top of the inning before the rally by Pilot Point (7-12-1, 5-2-1).
Tommy Carney and Brett Huntsman had doubles for S&S.
No. 6 Krum 6, Pottsboro 5
POTTSBORO — Tyler Walker’s two-out single on a 3-2 pitch in the seventh inning drove in two runs as Krum defeated Pottsboro.
The result makes for a three-way, first-place tie between the two schools and Ponder. Pottsboro is at Ponder on Friday.
The Cardinals (11-4, 6-2) had the tying run at third with one out in the bottom of the inning but couldn’t push it across.
Brian Dunkle and Kevin Garcia drove in runs for Pottsboro.
District 11-2A
Howe 10, Bells 9 (8)
HOWE — It took a pair of rallies in the final innings before Howe was finally able to defeat Bells.
The Bulldogs scored three runs in the seventh to force extra innings and then three in the eighth, the last coming on a passed ball for the win.
Howe (10-4, 6-2) used a passed ball in the seventh to tie it but Bells (8-7, 4-4) got a two-run double from Colton Payne to jump back in front.
Branden Crabb led off the bottom of the inning with a home run and Dalton Harris added an RBI single to pull even again.
Payne, Trey Pedigo, Cody Vaughn and Reed Klose all homered for Bells while Jesse Walsh homered for Howe.
Whitewright 9, Honey Grove 1
WHITEWRIGHT — Steven Spann went 2-for-3 with a two-run double and three RBI and earned the win for Whitewright, which was the visiting team on its own field because of unfavorable playing conditions in Honey Grove.
Spann (4-1) allowed four hits and one unearned run with four walks and 12 strikeouts for the Tigers (10-5, 6-2), who remain tied for second place with Howe. Dustin Watson went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run and four RBIs, Dylan Griffin was 2-for-4 while Bryant Threadgill was hit by a pitch three times.
Gunter 12, Leonard 1 (6)
GUNTER — Paul Nicholson starred at the plate and on the mound as Gunter run-ruled Leonard.
Nicholson hit two home runs, a solo blast and a two-run homer which enacted the run-rule, and added an RBI triple while allowing an unearned run on three hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.
Bobby Dodd was 2-for-2 with a walk and two-run double for Gunter (15-5, 8-0), while Bubba Martin doubled for Leonard (3-12, 0-8).
District 10-A
No. 5 Blue Ridge 19, Ector 0 (4)
ECTOR — Zach Rainwater went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in five runs as Blue Ridge run-ruled Ector.
Tye McKinney added two doubles and four RBI while Zack Kidney drove in three runs for the Tigers (15-1, 7-0).
Addison Williams and Hayden Griffin combined on the one-hitter.
Trenton 14, Dodd City 4
DODD CITY — T.J. O’Quin and Daniel Hayes each hit two-run home runs as Trenton (12-5, 5-2) defeated Dodd City.
O’Quin added an RBI double while Derek Meyer homered and Brock Murphree doubled twice and drove in four runs for Trenton.
Ethan Stephens had an RBI double for Dodd City (5-9, 2-5).
District 17-A
Wolfe City 27, North Hopkins 0 (5)
WOLFE CITY — Ryan Smith went 5-for-5 and drove in three runs as Wolfe City run-ruled North Hopkins in a battle of district unbeatens.
Zach Williams added three hits and drove in four while Zeke Richardson hit a two-run home run and Tyler Deary was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a pair of RBI for the Wolves.
Colt Herron struck out 10 and hit a three-run home run for Wolfe City (12-3, 5-0).
